Legos and Cakes (Cakes 89-95)

Holly and I headed out to the Carondelet area and Holly Hills Drive to see the first cakes of the day: the Carondelet Historical Society and Carondelet Park.

We thought that this was a very clever cake with a terrific candle!

We liked the fountains and the ducks at Carondelet Park!

The next cake, Shakespeare Glen, was originally located at Forest Park. But when the Shakespeare Festival was over, it moved to the office building where they plan the festival. It's a nice cake!

The next cake on the list was the Botanical Gardens cake. This is a pretty one; it reminds me of the Japanese Garden, which has lots of koi to feed! Holly was excited about doing that...I'm not sure she can remember when she did it a few years ago. They have a nice Lego exhibit in the Climatron, so we went to that, too! Holly had fun using the map to figure out what the next Lego display would be. She was good at finding them!

Holly wanted to take my picture:

We got really hot walking all the way to the Japanese Garden! We walked back to the Climatron, and as we did, Holly said, "Chloe wouldn't like this, Mom. There's too much walking! But I don't mind, right?"

Here are some of the Lego sculptures and pretty plants and flowers we saw. There are more pictures on Flickr! (You know it's hot outside when the Climatron feels cool...they keep it a very humid 85 in there.)

I love how the birdseed is made out of Legos, too!

Inside the building, they had some poison dart frogs. Holly wanted a picture pretending that she was holding them, to freak Chloe out. Chloe did her PRISM project on poison dart frogs this year.

Inside the Creation Station, Holly and I cooled off while building some creations of our own. This is a cute setup!

You can tell I have cakes on my mind:

After lunch, Holly and I found some more cakes. I loved this cake at the original Imo's location. Imo's was founded in 1964.

The next cake was at the Compton Hill Water Tower. I parked so that we could walk to the address, but I didn't see the cake. Holly spotted it very quickly when this was our view. She has eagle eyes! Can you see it to the right...just behind that tree?

Holly said, "Mom, Chloe wouldn't like this cake! But I do! I'm a climber!"

Our last cake was at Cardinal Glennon. This is a busy place! It was hard to find a good spot to park. We really liked this cake, though!

Holly and I were worried about gettting caught in a thunderstorm, or worse...rush hour traffic. So we headed home. We'll find more cakes on Wednesday, probably. It's supposed to rain a lot tomorrow, and I think we'll head up to school and work on setting up my classroom.
