All Around the Arch (Cakes 155-163)

Today was "Arch Day." We planned to go to the top of the Arch, and then play at the Citygarden. Of course, there were cakes along the way. The first cake was a "pick up." They added this cake to an area we'd already been. It was very close to Pappy's and Harris Stowe. This cake was the "traveling cake" for a while. It visited special events. It's final home is the First Baptist Church. We love the fireworks and the confetti!

The Arch grounds are a big mess these days! They're expanding the park area, so that it's even more wonderful than it's been in the past. But for us today, that meant that we had a heck of a time figuring out how to get to the Arch, and where to park. We finally parked in a garage near Busch Stadium, and walked. That worked out pretty well, as the girls saw lots of cakes that we could visit on our way back to the car. (This sign about the Battle of St. Louis goes with the cake that is at the Hilton. It's the Fort San Carlos cake.)

The Old Cathedral is undergoing a lot of construction, too! But we were able to see the cake.

Pink Baby photobomb!

The Arch. Oh, how we LOVE the Arch!

We went right inside and bought tickets. I'm glad we came in the morning! The earlier, the better! You can just walk right in. If you wait until mid-morning, you'll be waiting in long lines! Here we are, at the top:

Chloe started to notice the "Arch legs." I'd never thought to look at that before! Then I saw the cake at the bottom, and started looking around for more cakes...I think I'm getting a little too obsessed with finding cakes...

Back on the ground, we tried to watch the movie about how the Arch was built. But the film broke just as the movie was starting, and we had to have our tickets refunded. Oh well! Another time!

These are figures that are in the museum. It was really interesting; the topic in this part of the exhibit is all about how medals were given to Native Americans when treaties were made; most of the time the Indians didn't understand what they were agreeing to. They just liked the medals, so the government took advantage of that.

After we finished touring the Arch, we asked some construction workers where some good places for lunch would be. We ended up at Caleco's, on the other side of the Courthouse. After our bellies were full, we walked back to take pictures with the cakes we'd noticed all along our way today. This is the cake at the Drury Plaza. You can see the Old Courthouse in the windows.

Dred Scott and his wife...the Dred Scott case started here at the Old Courthouse, so the cake is based on that.

Kiener Plaza--I love this cake, and the background, and the flowers!

The Fort San Carlos cake at the Hilton. Holly spotted this one!

Busch Stadium

Citygarden--This is a place that I've been meaning to take the girls to for a long time. I hadn't ever looked into it carefully, or found out exactly where it was. I knew about the fountains, and the girls were ready. They were very excited to get here and play!

This pool is only for children ages 5 and under. So Holly and Chloe took my advice, and told the attendant that they were 5-year-old twins. Everyone always thinks that they're twins anyway, so why not take advantage of that? They had fun playing and splashing around, until they decided just to play in the fountains again.

We bought Gus's pretzels from the food truck at the park. Yum! This was a fun caking day!
