We started looking for cakes today even though it was cloudy with a 40% chance of rain. We thought we'd get lucky and be able to finish the group of Central West End cakes. We started at The Grove:
This is the Center for Emerging Technologies, or CIC@CET (Cambridge Innovation Center at Center for Emerging Technologies). Say that three times fast!
Gaslight Square and the Gaslight Theater were next on the list. We ate lunch at the West End Grill and Pub. Gaslight Square was the entertainment district in it's day. It was built in the mid 1950's, and lasted through the end of the 60's. Most of the buildings that were in this spot are now gone. Entertainers like The Smothers Brothers, Miles Davis, Barbara Streisand, Woody Allen, and Jerry Stiller performed at the start of their careers in the various clubs of Gaslight Square. The area was decorated with gas street lamps and Victorian style architecture.
It rained for awhile when we were eating, but it was only drizzling a little as we left. We thought we'd have time to get a few more cakes in today. So we visited the New Cathedral and went inside to look around.
We went to the Chess Center next, but it started to thunder and lightning again, so we decided that we'd better head home. We only got a few of the cakes we wanted to see today, but that's OK. We might try again tomorrow.
