Tom and I took the girls caking today. I was so happy he decided to go, because that meant that I would get Chloe to go. Chloe has fun when we're out and about, but she puts up a fuss about caking in general these days. That's one of the reasons that we haven't been out getting cakes this fall. I can't blame her, though...I've been really busy with school, girl scouts, and Sunday School this fall.
Now that the end of the year is approaching and cakes are being auctioned off or moved, there is a mad rush among cakers to get them all...people are out like they haven't been in months! It's silly, really...but I still want to get them all.
We stopped by the Public Media Commons on Olive Street downtown. This is where some of the cakes are being put for New Year's Eve festivities. All of these are on the list to be auctioned off.
Back in the late summer, I ordered medals for Chloe and Holly. I figured that this might be the last time we got them both out for caking, so I'd better make the most of it and give them their medals, even though we were only at 235. I'm glad I did...both girls really liked them!
We headed to North County to pick up some cakes there...this is the more questionable part of town these days, near Ferguson. But things are quieter these days, and we had no troubles. We ate at Chuck-A-Burger. It's a lot like Steak N Shake, with curbside service like Sonic. They've been in business since 1957.
We had a nice lunch here...Chloe sampled the grilled cheese sandwich, of course, and the rest of us got burgers and fries.
Next, we were off to the UMSL campus and Express Scripts. We had no trouble finding these cakes. It's so much easier when you use GPS coordinates instead of street addresses.
Everyone was fascinated to see and hear planes so close by. I told the girls that we were going to the airport for that cake soon. Holly was disappointed not to be headed off on a fun trip. I told her we'd do that another day!
Holly was hilarious walking to the library. She said, "Mom, college students are bad and spit their gum out all over the place." She was annoyed by all of the black dried gum spots everywhere.
We liked the Christmas tree made of books!
Holly couldn't resist pointing out the cherub's penis in this painting...we had to have a talk about good manners in public. (Sigh.)
