A Little Cake on New Year's Eve

We went by the City Museum just to get the cake...we need to be a little older before we come here to explore the whole museum. I've thought about it, and it's just too dangerous, with all of the places that kids can climb around by themselves. It was really crowded today! I was lucky to find a meter right in front. The parking lot was full!

Holly is stylin' today, folks! Ready to find the last cakes! Chloe was a little reluctant to come with us at first, but she was easily swayed by the fact that we were only going to see three cakes, and then go to see Big Hero 6.

We went back by the "cake walk" at the Public Media Commons because (A) we were already downtown and it was close. (B) Andrea Snowden, one of the administrators for the STL250 Cakeway to the West Facebook page was going to have the infamous golden cake today at noon, and (C) because I wanted to get some pictures of all of the cakes together. It was freezing cold, but we had a good time. We only had to wait a little while before Andrea showed up with the cake. When Chloe saw it, she said, "If we get the golden cake, do we win?!?" I told her, "YES!"

There were a bunch of people there, taking pictures with the cakes they'd missed when they were in their original spots.

Then we got to take pictures with the golden cake!

Part of Grand is already blocked off for the First Night festivities. I'll bet it's going to be crowded. When we were leaving, it was already getting hard to navigate downtown due to all of the traffic.

Holly's outfit cracked me up...I took lots of pictures of her!

We drove out to Mount Pleasant Winery in Augusta, about an hour away. That's the problem with these loose cakes at the end of the journey...they're really spread out! Oh well...at least the winery was open today. It was another beautiful day for caking! Had the weather been bad this week, we never would have gotten them all.

The man at the winery told me that they are going to keep the cake as is for awhile, and then take the candle off and put on a bride and groom. They're going to paint the whole thing white and have it be a wedding cake, since they have so many weddings there. That will be interesting. I sampled some of the wine, and bought some to bring home, Then the girls and I ate a pizza before we left. It was good!

Our timing for this trip was perfect! We got to the theater just in time for Big Hero 6. We all loved it! It was a fun day! Holly was especially excited, because Tom bought some Chinese food for dinner. I made Chloe a cheese sandwich, of course. She only eats fortune cookies from a Chinese restaurant; maybe some fried rice, but only under protest.
