Five Cakes and One That Got Away (Cakes 8-12)

Today I asked the girls if they wanted to try a new water park. They were excited about that! So we headed out the door, and stopped by a couple of cake locations along the way. The girls are always very excited to discover the cakes themselves, so I don't talk about the cakes that we might drive by. I let them find them. This cake is at St. Anthony's Medical Center, where I had my gall bladder surgery in January. It was really nice to just take a picture of the cake, and not have any reason to go inside!

This cake is in the area very close to school. The Sappington family settled in this area at the same time as the Lewis and Clark expedition...so there are lots of things named after them. There's Sappington Road, where my school is located, Sappington School, Sappington Market, etc. Chloe and Holly found this cake very easily!

I thought it would be fun to find the cake at Laumeier Sculpture Park...but instead of a cake, Holly found this huge eyeball. She said that probably a giant in the sky dropped it by accident.

Then she and Chloe decided to try to push the eyeball.

The next sculpture that we explored was a climbing one. Holly was excited to get inside! Chloe followed her, but her fear of heights kept her from making it to the top, despite three attempts at doing so. She said she'd try it again when she gets bigger.

We didn't find the cake at Laumeier Sculpture Park. The park is close enough to home that I wasn't worried; we'll try again. Chloe wanted to get to the water park, and she was annoyed at the thought of looking around at a lot more sculptures. This is the cake that got away today...I'm sure it's on display as a sculpture in the park, which means it will take a little more effort to find it. I figured I'd better make good on my water park promise.

On the way to Tower Grove Park, the girls spotted this cake. It wasn't even on my hidden agenda for the day! This cake is at the corner of Shenandoah and Vandeventer; Operation Brightside was started in 1982 to make St. Louis greener, cleaner, and better. There's a pretty picnic area across the street from this cake.

Finally we found the wading pool at Tower Grove Park. Chloe and Holly both really loved it!

They sat in the shade and had a little snack, then played in the water some more before we left. There is a nice wedding reception/party building in Tower Grove Park. It's the Piper Palm House. We needed to find that, and find the cake! Luckily, it wasn't hard to find at all!

I pointed this one out to the girls, because it was really well camouflaged. Holly said, "This looks like a zoo cake!"

There aren't too many palm trees in Missouri! It's fun to see some!

The last stop for the day was Ted Drewes, where we could get some ice cream. I didn't mention this cake, and Holly was excited when she found it!

Then as we ordered our ice cream, Holly had an in-depth discussion with the woman who took our order. The woman told Holly that it seems like she never gets to leave, and Holly wanted to know exactly where she slept in this place, if she never left. The gal told Holly that she sleeps in the freezer. Holly said, "YOU SLEEP IN THE FREEZER?!?"

Ted Drewes Frozen Custard gets two thumbs up from the girls!

And now for more swimming...this time in Mr. Tony's pool!
